By Chloe Smith

The Nicholas County/ Carlisle Chamber of Commerce hosted an award ceremony Feb. 2, to celebrate one of the small businesses that brings so much life to Carlisle. Carlisle Drugs was the recipient of the Business of the Year award for 2020.

Business owner Kevin Fosso accepted the award that was presented by Chamber secretary/treasurer Steve Scalf. Both Mayor Ronnie Clark and County Judge Executive Steve Hamilton made speeches.

Frisco moved to Nicholas County in 2013 from Lexington and became owner of longtime business Carlisle Drugs. Fosso and staff are always friendly and prepared to help the community. Every Christmas they are part of the community angel tree program which helps bring gifts to children in Nicholas County who might not get Christmas presents otherwise. The business is also well-known for donating funds to non-profit community endeavors to build the county. “On behalf of myself, and the city council, and the citizens of Carlisle, I’m very appreciative of this business and all of the businesses here in town,” Mayor Clark said.

This award was given by the members of the chamber, “We ask chamber members to submit nominees for the award at the end of the year and then we have them vote for who they would like to see win,” chamber administrator Jerry Johnson said.

The members considered many of the businesses of Nicholas County. “I would have loved to have given an award to every business in Nicholas County,” said chamber board member Mike Klutka. “They are working against big companies like Amazon.”

All of Carlisle seems very proud of our little shops that bring life to the town and this award ceremony gives the community the much-needed chance to say thank you.
